Colored Letters is a reading method developed in Sweden that uses colour as a visual cue to connect letters with speech sounds. The method is supported by books, a sound chart, practice materials and digital tools.
English has 26 letters but about 40 speech sounds. Letters and letter combinations therefore do not always sound the same way.
Colored Letters uses color as a visual clue to make the connection between letter and sound easier to discover.
The color coding provides a visual clue directly in the text.
The child practices the connection between letters and sounds.
When the sounds are recognized, it becomes easier to read words.
The goal is normal, independent reading without colors.
